Security forces on Saturday launched a massive search operation across several forward villages in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district after a suspected Pakistani drone was spotted along the International Border and later entered Indian Territory, officials said. The enemy drone was observed hovering for several minutes over the forward villages of Kandral, Abtal, and Bahadurpur in the Ramgarh sector late Friday night.
Officials stated that the area has been placed under strict surveillance, and the search operation began at first light to ensure no weapons, narcotics, or other contraband were airdropped from across the border.
In a related development, security forces recovered more than 3.5 kg of heroin—valued at over ₹20 crore in the international market—after consignments were dropped by drones in border villages of the RS Pura sector over the past two days.
Drone incursions from the Pakistani side have increased significantly over the past two months along both the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border.
More than two dozen suspected drone intrusions have been reported across Rajouri, Kathua, Doda, Samba, and Poonch districts.
The Indian Army chief has repeatedly warned Pakistan over these repeated violations, yet drones continue to fly close to the LoC and International Border. The majority of incursions have been successfully intercepted by security forces, leading to recoveries of weapons, drugs, and other essential items.
