Parts of south Kashmir and Srinagar received the season’s first snowfall on Friday, bringing respite and cheer to the residents, while the higher reaches in the valley received moderate snowfall, officials said.
Fresh snowfall on the Sinthan pass along the NH-24 has forced the administration to suspend all vehicular movements in the area until further notice.
Meanwhile, authorities and snow clearance teams were also informed about the occurrence of the snowfall earlier today, creating dangerous driving conditions on the mountain pass.
Officials have requested that all types of traffic on the route be halted to ensure public safety.
“The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), responsible for road maintenance, will issue clearance once the route is deemed safe for travel,” officials said.
Additionally, the traffic department of Jammu and Kashmir has urged travellers to cooperate with the suspension and avoid travel till further notice.
“Travellers are advised to stay updated on road conditions and official announcements before planning their journeys through the area,” they said.
One of the officials informed the reporters that the traffic movement had been suspended keeping in view the safety of the general public, officials said.
