Security forces launched a search operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district after a suspicious movement was noticed in the border belt, officials said on Monday.

A search operation in the forest belt of Poonch district is also underway.

Acting on information that a woman spotted three suspected persons in the Nowshera area late Sunday night, a search operation was launched in the area, they said. The operation is being carried out by a joint team of security forces, they said.

This comes two days after the security forces launched an operation in the district of Samba after specific information about the movement of suspected individuals in the area.

The locals reported the movement of three suspected militants in the area.

Shortly after, a joint team of police and paramilitary forces cordoned off Nangal, Chilladanga, Goran, and adjoining forests early morning for a thorough search operation.

According to the officials, the operation was launched after locals informed police about the suspicious movement of three persons during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.

No trace of the suspected militants was found after a relentless combing operation, the officials said.

Meanwhile, security forces, along with the police and paramilitary forces, reportedly killed “six terrorists in Shopian and Pulwama, three of whom were associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba and another three were associated with Jaish-e-Mohammad.”

“The CRPF, Army, and JK Police together worked to carry out these operations in Kellar (Shopian) and Tral (Pulwama). Six terrorists were neutralised. It was only possible after the close coordination between the security forces,” GOC Victor Force Major General Dhananjay Joshi told reporters during the pre-briefing.

The operations marked the first major success after the terrorists gunned down 26 people in Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam on April 22.
