Seven booked under NDPS Act in Anantnag

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday arrested seven drug peddlers in Anantnag district under the NDPS Act amid the ongoing 100-day Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, officials said.

 

“The police have intensified the anti-narcotics drive in Anantnag to control the substance abuse menace in the district, resulting in registration of multiple cases under the NDPS Act,” officials said.

 

In an official statement, the police spokesperson said seven drug peddlers were arrested in Bijbehara, Anantnag, in coordination with a medical team, which conducted on-site screening using a rapid drug detection kit.

 

During the exercise, five individuals tested positive for drug consumption and were subsequently booked under Section 8/27 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

 

The accused have been identified as Ghulam Nabi Hajam of SICOP, Bijbehara; Khursheed Ahmad Sheikh of Tak Mohalla, Bijbehara; Waseem Ahmad Dhobi of Badroo, Srigufwara; Showkat Ahmad Sheikh of Sheikh Mohalla, Bijbehara; and Sartaj Ahmad Chori Saz of SICOP, Bijbehara.

 

According to police, separate FIRs numbered 165/2026, 166/2026, 167/2026, 168/2026 and 169/2026 under Section 8/27 of the NDPS Act have been registered against all the accused and further investigation is underway.

 

In a separate incident, Police Station Kokernag arrested two individuals after they were found roaming suspiciously in the area. Both men were subjected to medical examination, where they tested positive for drug consumption.


The accused were identified as Tanveer Ahmed Malik and Subair Ahmed Tantry, both residents of Zalangam. They have been booked under the NDPS Act. Further investigation in both cases is in progress.
