Parliamentarians who have demonstrated consistent legislative engagement and exemplary performance in the Lok Sabha have been recognised with the prestigious Sansad Ratna Awards 2025. Seventeen Members of Parliament, cutting across party lines, were selected for their contribution to parliamentary democracy, including seasoned lawmakers such as Supriya Sule of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar faction), Bharatiya Janata Party’s Ravi Kishan and Nishikant Dubey, and Arvind Sawant of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray).

This year’s honours include four Special Jury Awards conferred upon parliamentarians who have sustained outstanding performance since the 16th Lok Sabha. These were awarded to Bhartruhari Mahtab (BJP, Odisha), N K Premachandran (Revolutionary Socialist Party, Kerala), Supriya Sule (NCP-SP, Maharashtra), and Shrirang Appa Barne (Shiv Sena, Maharashtra).

The Sansad Ratna Awards, instituted to celebrate diligence, quality debates and constructive contributions in Parliament, have grown to be a benchmark of democratic accountability. The current selection underscores both quantity and quality in participation, legislative business, and oversight.

Among the other awardees are Smita Uday Wagh (BJP), Naresh Mhaske (Shiv Sena), Varsha Gaikwad (Congress), Medha Kulkarni (BJP), Praveen Patel (BJP), Bidyut Baran Mahato (BJP), and Dilip Saikia (BJP). The selection reflects performance across debates, private members' bills, questions raised, and attendance.

The Standing Committee on Finance, chaired by Bhartruhari Mahtab, and the Standing Committee on Agriculture, headed by Dr Charanjit Singh Channi of the Congress, were also recognised in the committee category. Both panels were lauded for the depth, rigour and quality of their reports and their role in ensuring legislative scrutiny and executive accountability.

The Sansad Ratna Awards were established following the recommendations of former President A P J Abdul Kalam, who advocated institutional recognition for parliamentary excellence. Since then, the awards have grown in stature, rewarding the commitment of elected representatives to the democratic ethos.
