The decision was taken in an effort to maintain stability within the organisation and encourage Dhami to continue leading the SGPC.

The SGPC interim committee today rejected the resignation of president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami in Chandigarh.

The executive committee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) convened a meeting on Monday, where it unanimously decided to reject the resignation of Harjinder Singh Dhami from the post of president.

The decision was taken in an effort to maintain stability within the organisation and encourage Dhami to continue leading the SGPC.

Meanwhile, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has softened its stance against party rebels, urging them to reunite with the mainstream. A day before the Akal Takht-monitored panel is set to launch its membership drive from the Takht premises, SAD working president Balwinder Singh Bhunder extended an olive branch to the dissidents by offering them SAD membership forms.

The move is seen as an attempt to consolidate the party’s strength amid internal differences.

Speaking at a press conference, Bhunder called upon the rebels to put aside their differences and work towards unity among all Akali factions. He emphasised that a collective approach was essential for the party’s future and appealed to all factions to come together for the greater good.

During the SGPC executive committee meeting, which was presided over by senior vice president Raghujit Singh Virk, it was decided that Dhami should immediately resume his responsibilities as SGPC chief.

The committee members expressed their unanimous support for him and acknowledged his leadership within the organization.

Following the meeting, Virk announced that all executive committee members would personally visit Dhami’s residence in Hoshiarpur later in the day to formally request him to return to his role and continue serving as the SGPC president. The visit was planned as a gesture of solidarity, reinforcing the committee’s commitment to his leadership and the organisation’s smooth functioning.
