Union Home Minister Amit Shah engaged with the Chief Ministers of West Bengal, Assam, and Manipur on Monday following severe losses incurred by these states due to a recent storm. Shah pledged full central support to aid in the recovery efforts.
Expressing deep concern for the affected regions, Shah took to social media to convey his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and extended wishes for the swift recovery of the injured.
"Deeply concerned about the severe loss suffered by West Bengal, Assam, and Manipur due to a storm. Spoke to the Chief Ministers and assured them of all possible assistance. I extend my sincerest condolences to the families of the deceased and pray for the swift recovery of the injured," he wrote on X.
Furthermore, Shah urged BJP workers in the affected states to step forward and provide assistance to those affected by the calamity.
The storm left a trail of destruction, with reports of casualties and injuries in West Bengal and Assam.
In West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district, five people lost their lives and over 100 sustained injuries due to the severe weather conditions.
Additionally, a tragic incident involving a boat capsizing in the Brahmaputra River in Assam's South Salmara-Mankachar district resulted in one child's death and two individuals reported missing.
Meanwhile, Assam, Manipur, Tripura and Mizoram also experienced adverse weather conditions, including rain and hailstorms, leading to damage to infrastructure and agricultural crops in various parts of the state.
