The gunmen who stormed into a hospital in Patna and executed gangster Chandan Mishra in broad daylight have been traced to West Bengal, where Bihar Police arrested over five individuals believed to be directly linked to the crime.
Mishra, out on parole for medical treatment, was admitted to Room 209 of Paras Hospital when the killers, armed and coordinated, forced their way into the private facility and opened fire, killing him on the spot.
According to a police source, the suspects were apprehended in a series of raids conducted in multiple locations in West Bengal. "The arrested individuals are currently being questioned, and legal procedures are underway to bring them to Patna for further investigation," the source added.
The number of arrests could increase, investigators said, as search operations continue. Among those identified in preliminary questioning are Tausif alias Badshah, Balwant, Abhishek, Mannu Singh, Nilesh, Suryamaan, and Neeshu. The police are pursuing leads to determine whether these individuals belong to a broader gang network or were hired as contract killers.
Once intelligence indicated that the accused had fled across the state border, a special unit was dispatched under direct supervision of senior Bihar Police officers. Surveillance footage and mobile tracking helped narrow down their locations.
The high-profile killing unfolded just after 7 am on April 22, when six men arrived on two motorcycles at Paras Hospital. Five armed assailants entered the building while one accomplice, wearing a helmet, remained with the vehicles outside.

Although initially stopped at the emergency entrance for lacking hospital entry passes, the shooters reportedly gained access via the Outpatient Department (OPD) wing. CCTV footage shows them moving with purpose towards Room 209 before unleashing gunfire.
The same surveillance footage captured their escape, rushing back through the hospital’s corridors, fleeing the scene, and vanishing on motorcycles waiting nearby.
The daylight attack has raised serious concerns over hospital security protocols and the ease with which armed assailants were able to breach a high-security medical environment. Questions are also being raised over how Mishra, a known gangster, was monitored while on medical parole.
Chandan Mishra had multiple criminal cases pending against him and was considered a high-risk inmate. His death, investigators suspect, may be linked to rival gang activity, though no definitive motive has been confirmed.
Authorities have intensified efforts to trace remaining suspects and uncover the organisational trail behind the assassination. Meanwhile, legal formalities are being completed to transfer the arrested men to Bihar for custodial interrogation.
The investigation remains open, with senior officials monitoring the case closely.
