The Jammu and Kashmir State Investigation Agency (SIA) on Tuesday raided several locations in central Kashmir as part of an investigation into the murder case involving a Kashmiri Pandit woman 35 years ago, officials said.
The agency revealed that it conducted the raids at the residences of several persons, who were formerly associated with the banned Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), in connection with the murder of Sarla Bhat.
According to reports, Bhat had gone missing from her hostel at the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences at Soura in April 1990. The reports also suggested that the Anantnag resident was working in the neonatology ward of Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura.
She was kidnapped from the hospital premises on April 16, 1990. Her bullet-ridden body was later recovered from the Lal Bazar area of Srinagar.
The police investigation believed that she was shot by three militants belonging to the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), whose chief Yasin Malik is now serving a life sentence in Tihar Jail.
The SIA raided the residence of the former JKLF leader, Peer Noorul Haq Shah, alias Air Marshal, along with several members of the now proscribed and banned outfit in Srinagar.
Further details about the raids were awaited, the officials said.
