The Central government has announced plans to provide financial aid to enhance organic and natural farming in Sikkim. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan disclosed the proposed plan during a meeting with state officials earlier this week.
"The central government will continue to provide all possible assistance to promote organic farming in the state," Chouhan assured during discussions attended by Sikkim Agriculture Minister Puran Kumar Gurang.
Chouhan emphasised the Union Ministry's commitment to bolstering organic and natural farming across the Northeastern state. “The Union Ministry will provide sufficient assistance to promote these vital sectors,” he added.
The announcement aligns with a series of consultations between the Union Minister and state agriculture ministers, aimed at addressing critical issues in the agricultural sector.
Meanwhile, Sikkim Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba, representing the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), reaffirmed his dedication to resolving state-specific issues during the ongoing winter session of Parliament.
Subba had earlier participated in a preparatory meeting of floor leaders in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The meeting, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and attended by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, sought to strategise for the current parliamentary session.
Sikkim, India’s first organic state, has long advocated sustainable agricultural practices, positioning itself as a leader in organic farming.
The Central government’s pledge to reinforce these efforts is expected to further strengthen the state’s agricultural foundation.
