The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing allegations of mass burials near Dharmasthala has intensified its efforts by initiating a fresh search operation at the foothills of Bahubali Betta. Police sources confirmed the operation began near Dharmasthala’s main entrance, involving multiple agencies.

The SIT’s renewed search is being conducted with the support of Puttur Sub-Divisional Officer Stella Varghese, Belthangady Tahsildar Prithvi Sanikem, a medical team, forest officials, personnel from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), and other relevant authorities.

On August 8, the SIT, accompanied by an anonymous complainant, had carried out excavations at two sites, numbered 16 and 16A,  in the Boliyar Gonkartar area of Dharmasthala village. While reports suggest two additional locations were also dug up, official confirmation remains pending.

The latest phase of the investigation saw the complainant brought under police protection to the new site. Officials have refrained from specifying how many locations may be identified during this ongoing search. Earlier, the 13th site inspected failed to yield any actionable evidence, prompting a strategic shift in focus.

Further complicating the inquiry, a second complainant, identified as Jayanth, has reported to police that he has pinpointed several possible burial sites in and around Dharmasthala.

The probe was launched following reports that several bodies were buried illegally in the area, leading to widespread concern among locals and environmentalists. The SIT has deployed teams from the Forensic Science Laboratory and other departments to ensure thorough examinations.

Security remains tight as the investigation continues, with the SIT yet to disclose any findings from the latest operations. The case remains under close scrutiny as authorities work to unravel the truth behind the disturbing allegations.
