Indian captain Surya Kumar Yadav has decided to donate his entire match fee from the Asia Cup to the armed forces and the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.
India on Sunday beat their arch-rivals Pakistan by six wickets in the final to lift the trophy.
The 35-year-old Indian captain posted on X after the closely contested final, “I have decided to donate my match fees from this tournament to support our Armed Forces and the families of the victims who suffered from the Pahalgam terror attack. You always remain in my thoughts. Jai Hind.”
Indian players are entitled to Rs four lakh match fee in the T20 format, which means that Yadav will be donating around 28 lakhs for the seven games he played in the continental event.
Meanwhile, the controversy has not yet ended between India and Pakistan over the allegations of politicisation from both sides.
The Indian team refused to exchange pleasantries with the Pakistani side during the entire tournament, where it ended up beating Salman Ali Agha’s men on three consecutive Sundays.
He paid tribute to the Pahalgam victims and the Indian armed forces after his team maintained a 3-0 win streak over Pakistan in this edition of the Asia Cup.
A furious Pakistan had accused him of making political statements and sought a ban on him in its complaint to the ICC.
The ICC panel later asked Surya Kumar Yadav to refrain from making political statements, besides imposing a 30 per cent fine on his match fee for that day.
Similar action was taken against the Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf, while Pakistani opener Sahibzada Farhan was released after a disciplinary warning.
