A man was arrested on Tuesday evening for allegedly setting his uncle’s house on fire in Dhala village near Solan. The accused, identified as 35-year-old Vipin, was taken into custody the same evening and produced in court on Wednesday for police remand.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Solan, Gaurav Singh, confirmed the arrest and said a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including for mischief, criminal intimidation, and intentional insult aimed at provoking a breach of peace.
The complaint was filed by Arun Kumar, a resident of Basal, who alleged that his nephew Vipin set his house ablaze. According to Arun, he was informed about the incident on April 30 by a Nepalese youth named Dholi, who had been hired to take care of the property. Arun claimed he caught Vipin in the act and was threatened and verbally abused when he attempted to intervene.
The fire damaged the ground floor of the house, including doors, windows, and a stored stack of wheat. SP Singh added that the accused’s criminal background is under review, and the motive behind the act is currently being investigated.
