Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday criticised the opposition for questioning the water quality at Triveni Sangam, where millions of devotees have taken a holy dip during the ongoing Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj.
"A huge number of people have bathed in the sacred Sangam, and I also took a dip. Some people are trying to create doubts about the water quality to harm spirituality and religious beliefs. Certain leaders cannot accept the success of Maha Kumbh. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, excellent arrangements have been made for the event," Dhami said.
Uttarakhand Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) also visited Prayagraj on Sunday and praised the efforts of UP CM Yogi Adityanath.
He commended the arrangements and said, "I congratulate CM Yogi Adityanath and all the officials for their efforts. This is a moment that cannot be described in words—it can only be experienced."
Meanwhile, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath dismissed concerns about possible contamination in the waters of Triveni Sangam.

Addressing the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on February 19, he said, "There are concerns about water quality at Sangam, but all pipes and drains around the area have been sealed, and water is being released only after purification. The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) is continuously monitoring the water quality."
A recent report by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) submitted to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) analyzed river water quality based on Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) levels.
The report, based on tests conducted on January 12-13, 2025, found that in most locations, the water did not meet the required standards for safe bathing.
