A chilling video of a young couple trekking through the lush forests of Meghalaya has gone viral on social media, now believed to be the final footage of 30-year-old Raja Raghuvanshi before he was allegedly murdered by his wife, Sonam, in a premeditated conspiracy involving her lover. The video, captured inadvertently by travel vlogger Devender Singh on May 23, shows the couple from Indore hiking toward the famed Double-Decker Root Bridge in Nongriat village, unaware of the tragic fate that awaited Raja just hours later.
Raja and Sonam, residents of Indore, had tied the knot on May 11 and travelled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon on May 21. They checked out of Shipra Homestay in Sohra (Cherrapunji) early on the morning of May 23 and embarked on a trek to Nongriat— a popular tourist spot known for its iconic living root bridges.
According to Singh’s Instagram post, he was reviewing his footage recently when he spotted the couple. “It was around 9:45 a.m. We were trekking down while they were heading up. Sonam was wearing the same white shirt later found near Raja’s body. It’s heartbreaking to see him alive, so unsuspecting of what was coming,” he wrote.

In the clip, Sonam is seen walking ahead with a polythene bag, while Raja follows closely behind, carrying the majority of their belongings. Singh has urged viewers to share the video widely, hoping it could support the ongoing police investigation. Later that day, Raja was allegedly pushed into a 1,000-foot-deep gorge. His body was discovered nearly 10 days later, on June 2, after a prolonged search operation by local authorities.
The disappearance of the couple on May 23 prompted an intensive investigation by Meghalaya Police. Sonam was traced and arrested in Uttar Pradesh a week later. During interrogation, she confessed to orchestrating her husband's murder with the help of her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha.
She further revealed the involvement of three other accomplices — Vishal Chauhan, Anand Kurmi and Akash Rajput — all of whom are now in police custody.
The video has triggered a wave of emotional and furious reactions across social media. “Her expression isn’t fear— it’s calculation,” one user commented. Another added, “Raja looked so trusting, carrying the bags and following her. It’s chilling to think of the betrayal.”
What began as a romantic honeymoon has ended in one of the most shocking and heart-wrenching cases of betrayal and murder in recent memory. The footage has become a key piece of evidence and a haunting reminder of the life that was tragically cut short.
The Meghalaya Police continue to investigate the case as the nation watches, gripped by the chilling details of trust, deception and premeditated murder.
