Fifteen-year-old state-level rifle shooter Damayanti Sen went missing under mysterious circumstances on Thursday. The teenager, who had recently secured an opportunity to appear for national team trials, has not been seen since leaving her home, sparking widespread anxiety among her family, coaches, and fellow athletes.
Damayanti, a resident of Umacharan Bhattacharya Lane in central Howrah, had been training under Olympian Joydeep Karmakar. According to her father, Dhrubajyoti Sen, she was overjoyed after being selected for the national-level trial and had intensified her training regimen in recent days. Known for her disciplined routine, she would retire early at night to prepare for early morning practice sessions.
On Thursday morning, Damayanti left home, reportedly to go shopping, but failed to return. In a puzzling detail, she left her mobile phone behind, making it difficult for the family to establish contact. Her family has stated that there were no domestic disputes or issues that could have prompted her to leave voluntarily.
As part of the investigation, police have reviewed CCTV footage from Howrah Station, where she was last seen. The footage shows Damayanti walking alone along platforms 4 and 5, dressed in a pink half-sleeve T-shirt and shorts. However, her movements after that point remain unaccounted for.
A missing person complaint has been filed at the Howrah Police Station, and authorities have initiated an intensive search operation. Police officials stated that multiple leads are being pursued, and further CCTV footage from surrounding areas is being examined to trace her whereabouts.
Meanwhile, the family has appealed to the public for any information that could help locate her, sharing her photograph widely on social media. Despite nearly 24 hours having passed since her disappearance, there has been no breakthrough so far.
As uncertainty looms, the family remains hopeful that Damayanti will be found safe soon, while the police continue their efforts to unravel the mystery behind her sudden disappearance.
