The ruling Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) said on Thursday that they are optimistic and hopeful about the statehood restoration in the upcoming parliament session.
Jammu and Kashmir has been without statehood since the centre abrogated Article 370 and 35A in August 2019, downgraded and subsequently bifurcated it into two UTs.
It has been almost six years since Article 370 was operationalised from the Indian constitution.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have on several occasions promised to restore the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir at the earliest.

Tanvir Sadiq NC's official spokesperson said, “We hope that the Statehood will be restored in the Budget session. The dual-power centre is not going to favour anyone.
“The restoration of statehood is imperative to redress the grievances of people and ensure jobs and other things to the masses,” he said.
He said, “It is easy to fight with centre and stage protests, but the prime minister has himself made a promise and commitment to the people of UT and thus there was no need to lock horns with the centre over the restoration of Statehood.”
He added, “That CDF for the MLAs will be Rs 40 crore each. “This has been promised by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to all the MLAs from NC as well as from the opposition. The proposal in this regard will be submitted in this regard soon.”
Meanwhile, opposition parties have accused NC of compromising the all-important statehood issue and playing with the sentiments of the people of Jammu and Kashmir after the party received a historic public mandate during the 2024 assembly elections.
