The Special Task Force of Haryana Police has detained a gangster and prevented a major attack that was being planned in Karnal and nearby areas, the police said in an official statement.
Amar Singh, also known as Muchh, a feared and active member of the Lawrence Bishnoi–Kala Rana/Nauni Rana gang, was detained on November 25 from the Karnal–Indri road, the statement added.
The STF team, headed by Inspector Deependra Singh, in charge of STF Karnal, acted on a specific intelligence input and caught Amar Singh, who is wanted in several criminal cases, it said.
The police recovered a foreign-made automatic pistol and live rounds from him, the statement said. On November 26, he was produced in court, where the police obtained a six-day remand for detailed questioning.
During interrogation, he admitted that he had brought explosive materials to Karnal a few days earlier on the orders of gang leader Nauni Rana, with plans to carry out a major attack.
He also told police that he had kept the explosives at a secluded area in Karnal and was waiting for the right time to use them.
On Thursday, the STF dug up the location he identified near the highway close to Jhinjhari village, behind Karn Lake, and seized two hand grenades and an IED.
The Forensic Sciences Laboratory team and the Bomb Disposal Squad were called to the site, and the explosive devices were safely neutralised. According to officials, the probe showed that the gang was planning a major attack in Karnal and nearby districts.
The police said gangster Kala Rana and his father Joginder Singh are already in jail under the UAPA and organised crime cases, and their associates were panning a major attack. The quick action by the STF prevented a large-scale crime and loss of life.
Singh is involved in cases of murder, robbery, kidnapping and other serious crimes, officials said. He has been active in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab for years and is linked to the “brutal murder” of a political leader, his driver and his gunman on the Noida–Ghaziabad border.
He is also involved in the kidnapping and killing of a youth in Ambala, the armed robbery of an Army officer’s vehicle at a dhaba in Yamunanagar, and several cases related to murder, conspiracy, theft, the Arms Act and illegal weapons in Noida and Ghaziabad, the statement added.
