Days after nabbing two operatives of the Al Queda-linked terrorist outfit Ansar-al-Islam, Assam’s Special Task Force (STF) has on Friday apprehended a 36-year-old suspected terrorist during a raid in Dhubri district.
The operation forms part of the ongoing multi-state exercise, Operation Praghat, aimed at dismantling terror networks, a senior official revealed.
The raid was conducted in Bandhabpara within the Bilasipara area of Dhubri, following an investigation linked to a case registered in the state.
“During the operation, a wanted anti-national was apprehended, and various documents and items were recovered from his possession,” the official said, adding that the suspect has been identified as Shahinur Islam.
Recovered from Islam’s possession were two Urdu books titled Nuriliza and Jana Wazib, along with a PAN card, Aadhaar card, passport, and a mobile phone.
Authorities have initiated the necessary legal and procedural formalities, the official stated.
Operation Praghat is part of a wider effort to combat terror activities in Assam and neighbouring states.
On December 25, two other suspected members of a terror network were apprehended in Kokrajhar’s Namapara area, where police seized a substantial cache of arms and ammunition.
Last week, eight fundamentalists, including a Bangladeshi national, were arrested during coordinated operations.
Police disclosed that this action thwarted a plot to establish sleeper cells for subversive activities across the country.
As Assam steps up its vigilance against potential threats, the STF’s coordinated efforts have received commendation for dismantling terror networks operating in the region.
