Schools in Jammu and Kashmir reopened on Friday after a three-month-long winter break. Minister for Health, Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakina Itoo, extended her best wishes for a successful academic session as students in the winter zone resumed their classes.
In a post on X, Itoo wrote, "As Winter Zone students join their schools after winter break, I wish them success for the session and future."
"I appreciate the support from all stakeholders, especially the teaching fraternity, to make it a memorable, successful year. Best wishes to all!" she added.
An official stated that over ten thousand private and government employees have also resumed their duties from today.
The schools in Kashmir were initially scheduled to reopen on 1 March. However, due to inclement weather, authorities extended the vacation by a week.

On 6 December 2024, the government announced winter vacations for all public and recognised private educational institutions in the Kashmir division and the winter zones of the Jammu division in two phases, beginning on 10 December.
Winter vacations for classes up to the 5th standard were declared from 10 December 2024 to 28 February 2025. Similarly, for classes from the 6th to the 12th standard, the holidays were scheduled from 16 December 2024 to 28 February 2025.
However, on 28 February, a day before the scheduled reopening, Education Minister Sakina Itoo announced an extension of the winter vacation for all classes in Kashmir schools until 6 March.
Itoo had stated, "Keeping in view the prevalent weather conditions, the government has decided to extend the winter vacation for all government and recognised private schools of the Kashmir region."
She further assured that if any student enrolled for board examinations was unable to reach their exam centre, the government would arrange an alternate examination date for them.
Meanwhile, all higher education institutions in the Kashmir Valley resumed academic activities on 14 February after fifty days of winter vacation.
