The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday carried out large-scale searches at 18 places in different districts of Karnataka as part of the Bajrang Dal activist Suhas Shetty's targeted killing case.
Shetty was brutally killed by the accused person — Abdul Safwan — and others using sharp weapons in Bajpe locality of Mangaluru City in May this year, according to a press release issued by the NIA.
The murder was meant to create fear in the society, it added.
The NIA, which had seized the case from the local police in June, on Saturday raided the homes of the 12 arrested suspects and other suspects in the case.
The raids, conducted in Mangaluru, Chikkamagaluru and Hassan districts, resulted in the confiscation of several digital devices, such as 11 mobile phones, 13 SIM cards and eight memory cards along with other incriminating papers, the probe agency added.

The inquiry into the conspiracy to commit the murder is ongoing, it added. Shetty was driving a car with his colleagues on May 1 when five to six attackers, who arrived in a car and a pick-up truck, stopped him.
The attackers stabbed Shetty with sharp weapons, leaving him grievously injured. He was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. The horrific attack had been caught on a CCTV camera, which had shown the attackers stabbing him using machetes and swords.
