Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday directed the State Electricity Board to implement a comprehensive strategy to assess power losses accurately and curb electricity theft across the state.
Chairing a high-level meeting with officials from the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) and the Energy Department, Sukhu emphasised the need for robust measures to reduce electricity losses. He instructed the department to carry out feeder-wise mapping of all commercial, industrial, and domestic consumers to ensure all data is accessible at the click of a button.
The chief minister also asked them to provide an option by April 30 to all the officers and officials of HPSEBL currently serving on deputation in the Directorate of Energy, Himachal Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation and Power Corporation. Civil wing staff may also choose to move to the Public Works Department or other departments, he said, adding that existing terms, promotions, and benefits would remain unaffected.
"The government will also amend the necessary policies to ensure that all benefits are protected. HPSEBL will be strengthened by filling up 2,000 posts of T-mates and Linemen in the coming months in order to streamline the functioning of the organisation," he added.
Sukhu reviewed the status of the 450 MW Shong-Tong Hydropower Project and directed officials concerned to ensure its completion by November 2026. He also instructed the authorities to prepare for timely power evacuation from the project once operational to avoid financial losses.
To promote transparency and accountability, Sukhu further ordered the transfer of officers and officials who have served extended tenures in industrial areas.
