West Bengal Assembly Opposition Leader Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday called upon the Election Commission to ascertain whether the voter roll in West Bengal was clear of Rohingya infiltrators. Adhikari, who was accompanied by other BJP MLAs, took out a march from the state assembly to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office here. Adhikari requested CEO Manoj Kumar Agarwal to carry out a house-to-house survey to provide an assurance that the voter list in West Bengal was Rohingya infiltrator-free.

Adhikari's demonstration to the CEO office coincided with TMC's protest demonstration against alleged torture of Bengali-speaking population in BJP-ruled states.

"We have Rohingya Muslims in nearly all the locations of West Bengal. We have instructed the CEO to make sure the voters' list is clean of any Rohingya infiltrators. If in Bihar, Rohingyas were deleted from the voters' list, then the same should be deleted in Bengal. We have also instructed the CEO to conduct an immediate house-to-house survey for the purpose," Adhikari informed journalists.

Adhikari also called for the CEO to see that operations are transparent and instructed that the CEO should request 50 per cent of the state government and central government employees on deputation.

Adhikari referred to West Bengal CM and Trinamool Congress boss Mamata Banerjee's protest march over the alleged torture of Bengali-speaking citizens in BJP-ruled states as a rally to "protect the Rohingyas".

"This rally was organised for the protection of the Rohingyas. The common people were not taken along," he added. The LoP complained that Bengal has turned into a factory for producing fake Aadhaar cards, fake birthday certificates and EPIC cards.

"Mamata Banerjee is not concerned about any demographic change. She is concerned about the list of voters," Adhikari said.

"She is on the road due to fear psychosis. Because she is aware that if, after Bihar, the ECI begins a random survey, then names of about one crore of Rohingya would be severed from the voters' list," he added.

Adhikari accused Banerjee of "twisting" the ongoing exercise of identifying the illegal Rohingyas, with her vote bank in mind.

"She is attempting to distort the fact. Illegal Rohingya Muslims are being identified. After proper screening, those who were originally Indian were let off. Only approximately 3 lakh Rohingyas with pseudonyms have been treated according to the law," he said.

The BJP chief also accused Rohingya of entering Bengal via the 540-kilometre-long border with Bangladesh and asked why the state government failed to allocate land to the Border Security Force (BSF).
