Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has pledged to take firm steps to secure 42 per cent reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in education and employment. He urged all parties to unite and meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue.
Speaking in the Telangana Assembly on Monday, Reddy reaffirmed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s promise of increasing BC reservation. He noted that his government initiated a BC caste census on 4 February to strengthen the proposal.
The Chief Minister thanked those who participated in the survey, calling it a historic moment for Telangana. He stated that the previous government had proposed a 37 per cent BC quota but his administration would now push for 42 per cent.
Reddy declared that 4 February would be observed as 'Social Justice Day' as the Assembly had adopted a resolution for the enhanced quota. He said the bill was introduced after consulting various groups and that his government was committed to its implementation.
"As the leader of the House, I assure that I will take proactive measures to achieve 42 per cent BC reservation," Reddy stated. He urged leaders from all parties to work together and meet the Prime Minister to press for the proposal.
He also called on Union Ministers Kishan Reddy, Bandi Sanjay, and BJP leaders to seek an appointment with the Prime Minister. Additionally, he asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to raise the matter in Parliament. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President Mahesh Kumar Goud was given the task of arranging a meeting with Gandhi soon.
Reddy asserted that the BC caste census report was accurate and emphasised that the responsibility of passing the BC bill in Parliament lay with all political parties. He vowed not to rest until the 42 per cent reservation was secured.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed his commitment to the Kamareddy Declaration and insisted that his government would pursue all legal options to ensure the increased quota.
