Four family members, including two children, found dead in burnt car in Tirunelveli; police probe suicide and foul play angles.

Four charred bodies, including those of two children, were recovered from a burnt car in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli on Tuesday, police said.

The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Tisayanvilai Police Station, where locals alerted authorities after spotting a completely burnt vehicle on a road leading to the Athangarai Mosque.

Police personnel rushed to the spot and found the car reduced to a charred wreck, with four bodies inside. Forensic experts were subsequently called in to collect evidence, while senior officers, including the Assistant Superintendent of Police, visited the site to conduct a preliminary inquiry.

Initial investigations suggest that the vehicle may have caught fire in the early hours of the day, though the exact cause remains unclear.

The deceased have been identified as Mohammed Rafi, a resident of Periyar Nagar in Nandambakkam, Chennai, his wife Seyed Nasreen Fathima, and their two daughters. Officials suspect that all four victims belonged to the same family.

According to police, the family had reportedly sold their house in Chennai just days before the incident, adding another layer of complexity to the case.

Investigators are probing multiple angles, including the possibility of financial distress leading to suicide, as well as the likelihood of foul play. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined to trace the movement of the vehicle and reconstruct the sequence of events.

The incident has triggered concern among local residents, with the police saying that further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths.
