Tarn Taran MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal passed away in Amritsar on Friday after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 66.
He is survived by his wife, Navjot Kaur Hundal, along with a son and a daughter, both pursuing careers in the medical field.
Sohal was admitted to Escorts Hospital in Amritsar late Thursday night with cancer-related complications. He passed away peacefully around 12:30 pm on Friday.
A former medical officer with over three decades of service in the Health Department, Sohal was deeply involved in organisational work. He was a founding member and state president of the PCMS Specialists Doctors Association for over 10 years.
Though he first sought an AAP ticket in the 2017 election but was denied, Sohal remained closely connected with the party. In 2022, he successfully contested the Tarn Taran seat, defeating SAD's Harmit Singh Sandhu and Congress's Dr Dharamveer Agnihotri.
Calling him a dedicated and hardworking leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed deep sorrow over his passing.
"Very sad to hear, Dr Saheb was a hardworking and struggling leader of the party. Heartfelt sympathies to his family in this sad time. May God grant peace to the departed soul and give patience and courage to the family and loved ones in this difficult time," wrote Mann on X.
Sohal’s death leaves a void in both the political and medical communities of Punjab.
