A teenage boy lost his life in a tragic altercation rooted in a love triangle, triggering shock and outrage in the Bamangachhi area of Liluah in Howrah district. The incident took place on Friday but turned fatal late on Saturday night when the injured boy succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
According to the victim’s family, the boy had been in a relationship with a teenage girl for the past few years. However, prior to this, the girl had reportedly been involved with another boy from Fakirbagan, under Golabari police station in the same district. This overlapping of relationships allegedly sowed the seeds of conflict among the three teenagers.
Police said all individuals involved — including the deceased and the accused — were minors. “Tensions had been rising in recent days between the victim and his girlfriend over her past relationship. On Friday the boy from Bamangachhi went to meet his girlfriend, accompanied by a group of friends. However, the girl’s former-boyfriend was also present, leading to a confrontation between the two groups.
“What began as a heated argument quickly turned into violence. It is alleged that the former-boyfriend and his companions attacked the victim with bamboo sticks near the Golabari area. He sustained a critical head injury during the assault and was immediately rushed to the hospital in a severely injured state by local residents. Despite medical efforts, he passed away late on Saturday night,” said a police officer.
Raj Pandey, the victim’s uncle, alleged foul play. “This was a premeditated attack. The girl’s former boyfriend called my nephew to the area and ambushed him. We’ve lodged a formal complaint,” he said.
Police from Liluah police station have launched a probe into the matter and are on the lookout for the absconding accused. Investigators are also exploring whether there was any deeper motive behind the killing beyond the alleged love triangle.
