Telangana revises engineering college fees for 2025–28; CBIT tops at Rs 1.83 lakh, hikes in 63 colleges, cuts in 19 after TAFRC review.

The Telangana government has approved a revision of undergraduate engineering course fees across several private colleges, with Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology (CBIT) recording the highest annual fee at Rs 1.83 lakh.

According to orders issued by the Telangana Admissions and Fees Regulatory Committee (TAFRC), tuition fees will increase in at least 63 colleges, remain unchanged in 70 institutions, and be reduced in 19 private engineering colleges for the upcoming academic cycle.

The revision comes as part of the government’s efforts to regulate fee structures and address alleged irregularities in the education sector. TAFRC had finalised the fee list for 152 colleges a few months ago, and the revised structure will come into effect from the 2025–26 academic year, remaining valid until 2025–28.

CBIT’s fee has been raised from Rs 1.65 lakh last year to Rs 1.83 lakh, an increase of Rs 18,000. Meanwhile, G. Narayanamma Institute of Technology and Science has been permitted to raise its fees by up to Rs 62,000. The college’s fee had earlier been reduced from Rs 1.22 lakh to Rs 1 lakh in 2022, but it has now received a significant hike.

In 36 colleges, fees have increased by Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000, while nine institutions have seen hikes ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 35,000. At Swami Vivekananda Institute of Technology, the fee has been raised by Rs 50, and at Malla Reddy Engineering College and Management Sciences, by Rs 200.

However, fees have been reduced in 19 colleges, with cuts ranging from Rs 3,400 to Rs 43,000. At Guru Nanak Institute of Technology, the annual fee has been lowered from Rs 1.20 lakh to Rs 77,000.

The changes follow a review by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy into the functioning, management, and alleged irregularities in several engineering colleges. He has directed the education department to initiate legal action against institutions accused of submitting false documents to the fee regulator.

Authorities have alleged that some colleges inflated maintenance expenses and reported high faculty salaries to justify increased fee demands.

The Chief Minister has repeatedly stated that education should not be commercialised and assured that the government is committed to ensuring access to education for economically weaker sections and helping students build a better future.
