Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, on an indefinite hunger strike at the Khanauri border between Punjab and Haryana, marked the 54th day of his protest on Friday. His health has severely declined, with reports of multiple episodes of vomiting and water intake reduced to less than one liter daily.
Growing support at Khanauri Border
The protest continues to gain momentum as 10 more farmers from Haryana joined 111 others already stationed at the Khanauri border. Farmer groups from the Khanauri and Shambhu protest sites, along with representatives of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), held a crucial meeting in Patiala's Patra area to discuss strategies, including preparations for a January 26 tractor march toward Delhi.
Health concerns for Jagjit Singh Dallewal
Dallewal’s health has become a significant concern, with his weight dropping by 20 kilograms since the start of his hunger strike, falling from 86.95 kg to 66.4 kg. Farmer leader Abhimanyu Kohar highlighted the urgency of the situation, calling for immediate attention to Dallewal's condition.
The SKM has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing serious concerns over Dallewal’s deteriorating health. The group urged the government to address the demands of the protesting farmers to avoid further escalation of the situation.
