An encounter erupted between terrorists and security forces in the Ahlan area of Kokernag in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday.
As per local media reports, A senior police officer reported that a team comprising Police and security forces initiated a cordon and search operation in Ahlan based on specific intelligence input.
As the joint team neared the suspected location, terrorists opened fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire. The intermittent exchange of fire continued as per the latest reports.
Before this incident, South Kashmir has witnessed several encounters this year.
In recent twin encounters in Kulgam district, security forces neutralised four terrorists. The first encounter, which took place in the Nowpora-Kherpora Trubji area, resulted in the elimination of two terrorists.
In a subsequent operation in the Mishipora area, two more terrorists were killed and two security personnel lost their lives while fighting the terrorists.
In June, an encounter in the Shopian district resulted in the elimination of three terrorists.
In March, a major operation in the Pulwama district led to the neutralisation of two terrorists, including a top commander.
Earlier in February, another encounter in the Tral area of Awantipora saw security forces neutralising terrorists.
