Five policemen sustained injuries after being attacked by a mob in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district, officials confirmed on Sunday. The incident occurred in Antichak, Kahalgaon sub-division, on Saturday night when a police team arrived in response to reports of a fight between two groups.
This marks the third assault on police personnel in Bihar within the past five days.
On Saturday, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) succumbed to injuries after being attacked by a group in Munger district, while another policeman died on Wednesday following a scuffle with a mob in Araria district.

Among the injured in the latest incident were a sub-inspector, three constables, and a chowkidar, officials said.
“The incident took place when a police team went to investigate a brawl between two boys, which had escalated. One of the boys hurled stones at the team. Following that, locals also started hurling stones,” said Antichak Station House Officer (SHO) Ashutosh Kumar.
Additional forces were deployed immediately, bringing the situation under control, he added.
The injured policemen were admitted to a government hospital for treatment.
“The prime accused, however, managed to flee. Local magistrate Sanjeev Choudhary was also present at the scene when the incident unfolded. Based on his statement, a case has been registered, and a search for the accused is underway,” Kumar stated.
Hours before the Bhagalpur incident, ASI Santosh Kumar Singh succumbed to injuries inflicted by a mob in Nandlalpur village, Munger district.
Singh was part of a police team dispatched to the village on Friday to investigate a scuffle.
He was attacked with a sharp weapon on the head by intoxicated assailants and later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Patna on Saturday.
