An Assistant Commandant rank officer and two jawans of the Central Para Military Force (CRPF) were injured in an IED blast in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand on Wednesday. The blast took place in Baliba area of Jhariakela police station of the district.
Injured CRPF Assistant Commandant Sai of CRPF 197 Battalion and the two jawans were airlifted from the site and were sent to Ranchi for better treatment.
According to State police, the blast took place during a search campaign being run against the Maoists in West Singhbhum. Due to the weak mobile network in the area, complete information about the incident could not be obtained.
Notably, the blast has occurred when CRPF DG is on a tour of Jharkhand.
Security forces are continuously running search operations in the forests of Chaibasa in search of Maoist Anal, who carries a reward of Rs. 1 crore on his head.
According to information, CRPF 197 battalion along with Cobra jawans and bomb disposal squad had gone to clean IEDs in the forest of Baliba in Goilkera police station area of West Singhbhum.

Information was received that Naxalites had planted IEDs underground on a large scale in this area; a campaign is being run by taking out IEDs from the ground and destroying them by taking action on the information.
On receiving the news of the blast, CRPF jawans immediately evacuated the three injured from the jungle and took them to the helipad, from where all the injured were sent to Ranchi by a helicopter.
