In a deeply distressing case from the Dehradun district, police have arrested a 19-year-old man and detained two teenagers in connection with the gang-rape of a 14-year-old girl. The attack reportedly took place last Thursday within a forested area situated near the Haridwar Bypass.
The investigation was launched on Friday following a formal complaint by the victim’s mother, which specifically named the suspects. It is alleged that the three individuals — including the primary accused, identified as Rafi, also known as Sonu— lured the girl away on the evening of March 12. Once they reached the secluded woodland, they are said to have drugged the youngster with an intoxicating substance before carrying out the assault.
According to the mother's account, the attackers bundled the girl into an auto-rickshaw to send her home after the ordeal. Upon her arrival, she reportedly became dizzy and collapsed. After she gained her senses, she revealed to her mother the details of what had happened, which led to the police report.
The three have been charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. While Rafi has been formally arrested, the two younger suspects remain in custody. Detectives have since discovered that the two minors were already known to the girl; in fact, one of them had previously lived as a tenant in her family home.
