Two killed in separate landslide incidents in Shimla
Two more people have lost their lives in Himachal Pradesh due to landslides and rockfalls in the past 24 hours. Both incidents took place in Shimla district.
On Sunday morning, around 11 am, a huge boulder crashed onto a car near Gallu Dagri village in the Sunni area. All three passengers were badly injured and rushed to the hospital. Sadly, one of them, 37-year-old Lekhraj, didn’t survive while the other two are still being treated.
Earlier, on Saturday, a tragic accident occurred in Kumarsain. Dinesh, a 55-year-old JCB operator, was trying to clear a landslide on National Highway 5 when the land beneath him gave way. Both he and the machine fell more than 300 metres down a gorge. He was thrown out about 100 metres down and died on the spot.
Relentless rain, cloudbursts, and landslides have caused damage worth nearly ₹1,715 crore in the state so far. Around 300 roads were still blocked on Sunday. Many areas are facing power cuts and water shortages. In Lahaul-Spiti, a flashflood washed away a bridge that connected the region to Chamba district. This has cut off access to the Pangi region and left hundreds of residents in villages like Tindi and Salgran stranded, right when their crops are ready to be harvested.
The Chandigarh–Manali highway also had to be shut down for nearly an hour due to a landslide and falling rocks near Jogini Mod, close to Pandoh.
