The Tamil Nadu government, led by Chief Minister MK Stalin, has made significant progress in women’s welfare over the last four years.
An official release highlighted several schemes aimed at empowering women and promoting gender equality.
The Tamil Nadu State Women’s Policy 2024 focuses on removing gender gaps and ensuring economic and social dignity for women.
The state has launched a variety of schemes under this policy.
The free bus ride scheme for women has been widely used. Over 682 crore free rides have been availed, including by women with disabilities. This has helped save around ₹888 per month for each beneficiary.
Another major initiative is the Kalaignar Women’s Entitlement Scheme. Around 1.15 crore women are receiving ₹1,000 per month. The government is also working to include eligible women who are not yet part of the scheme.
