Tripura’s Republic Day tableau depicting the revered Kharchi Puja and the worship of 14 deities blends tradition with modernity at the national parade in New Delhi.

The Ministry of Defence in a press statement on Wednesday announced that Tripura has earned the second position in the tableaux category at the Republic Day Parade 2025.

The panel judged entries from states, Union Territories, and Central Ministries for creativity, cultural representation, and presentation.

The state's captivating tableau, themed "Eternal Reverence: The Worship of 14 Deities in Tripura – Kharchi Puja," showcased the cultural grandeur of the north-eastern state.

It celebrated Kharchi Puja, a vibrant festival centred on the worship of 14 royal deities, drawing attention to its rituals and spiritual significance.

Uttar Pradesh claimed the top spot with its tableau, “Mahakumbh 2025 – Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas,” while Andhra Pradesh took third place for its display, “Etikoppaka Bommalu – Eco-Friendly Wooden Toys.”

According to a senior official from the Tripura government, the state participated in the Republic Day tableau rally in New Delhi, where a total of 26 tableaux were showcased.

Tripura's entry, displayed as the 19th tableau, stood out for its artistic brilliance and cultural depth.

"In line with this, the tableau highlighted Kharchi Puja and the rituals associated with the worship of the 14 royal deities and their significance.

Three main aspects were focused on in the tableau. Firstly, it represented a blend of tradition and modernity, symbolising progress through bamboo designs, technological applications, and models in traditional attire.

Secondly, the 14 deities were artistically presented through bamboo and cane craftsmanship. Thirdly, the tableau depicted the worship of Ha-Buma (Earth Mother) along with a cultural presentation," the official elaborated.

The tableau’s intricate craftsmanship and thematic focus on tradition seamlessly merged with modern design elements, capturing the spirit of Tripura’s evolving cultural identity.

The creative use of bamboo and cane highlighted the state's heritage while emphasising environmental sustainability.

The Republic Day Parade serves as a platform for states to showcase their unique cultural traditions and heritage, and Tripura’s commendable achievement reflects its rich cultural tapestry and artistic excellence.

The Ministry of Defence informed that three judging panels were constituted to assess the tableaux and marching contingents from the Services and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) or auxiliary forces.
