TVK Supremo Vijay on Saturday unveiled a series of welfare promises for women, including a monthly financial assistance of ₹2,500, free LPG cylinders and gold for marriage, if his party comes to power in Tamil Nadu.
Addressing an event organised to mark International Women's Day at Mamallapuram near Chennai, the chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam said the measures would form part of his party’s welfare agenda ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
Vijay said that under the proposed scheme, all women up to the age of 60 would receive ₹2,500 every month, except those employed in government service. The financial aid, he said, would be implemented once his party forms the government.
He also announced that young women would receive one sovereign of gold along with a silk saree as a wedding gift from the government.
In addition, families would receive six LPG cylinders free every year under what he called the “Annapurani Super Six Scheme.”
To address school dropouts, Vijay proposed the “Kamarajar Kalvi Uruthi Thittam,” under which mothers or guardians would receive ₹15,000 annually to ensure children continue their education.

Highlighting women’s safety, the actor-turned-politician said smart panic buttons would be installed in buses to enable women passengers to seek help during emergencies. He also promised free sanitary pads for girl students, to be distributed through ration shops, schools and colleges.
Vijay further announced interest-free loans of up to ₹5 lakh for women Self-Help Groups, aimed at promoting financial independence and entrepreneurship among women.
The TVK leader said that every newborn child in Tamil Nadu would receive a gold ring and a “baby welcome kit,” which would include items such as baby oil, powder and diapers under a government programme named “Ashirwad.”
Among other promises, Vijay pledged free bus travel for women in all state-run buses, strict action against crimes targeting women, and the creation of a special “Rani Velu Nachiyar” police unit dedicated to women’s safety. He also promised fast-track courts to ensure quick disposal of cases involving crimes against women.
During his speech, Vijay also criticised the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, alleging corruption in the state government.
He said the schemes could be implemented under what he described as a “graft-free super-good governance.”
At the event, Vijay also honoured several women achievers from different fields before posing for a group photograph with them.
