Actor-turned-politician Vijay on Sunday announced that he will contest from two constituencies in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, marking his maiden electoral entry under the banner of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK).
Vijay unveiled the party’s complete list of candidates for all 234 Assembly constituencies at an event held in Nungambakkam. According to the announcement, he will contest from the Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East constituencies.
Releasing the list, Vijay said that all key members of his core team have been fielded in various constituencies. TVK General Secretary N. Anand will contest from Thyagaraya Nagar (T. Nagar), while party Treasurer P. Venkataramanan has been nominated from Mylapore.
Senior leader K.A. Sengottaiyan will contest from Gobichettipalayam, and party functionary Adhav Arjuna has been fielded from Villivakkam.
Addressing party workers, Vijay framed the upcoming electoral battle as one between his “people’s alliance TVK” and the alliance led by M. K. Stalin, taking a swipe at the ruling DMK-led bloc, which he described as a “patch-up.”
“I have selected candidates who will stand with the people,” he said, describing TVK nominees as “Guardians of the People.” He added that elected representatives should not misuse power but instead protect the interests of their constituencies.
Outlining his party’s agenda, Vijay announced a series of youth-focused measures, including efforts to make Tamil Nadu drug-free and a collateral-free loan guarantee of up to ₹20 lakh for students from Class 12 to PhD level.
Polling for all 234 Assembly constituencies in the state is scheduled to be held on April 23.
