Assam Police detained two men for painting a Sonam Wangchuk mural on a public wall in Guwahati. Separate cases have been registered.

The Assam Police on Saturday detained two persons for painting a mural of activist Sonam Wangchuk on a public wall near the Jyoti Bishnu Auditorium in Khanapara, officials said. The accused have been identified as Nakul Mili, a resident of Dibrugarh, and Gaurav Singha of Guwahati.

According to police, the duo was intercepted by a patrol team late at night while allegedly defacing public property by painting the mural. Separate cases have been registered at Dispur and Basistha police stations, and an investigation is underway. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Intelligence) Hiranya Barman said the two individuals admitted they were attempting to paint Wangchuk’s mural.

He added that incidents of defacement of public property have become a recurring concern and warned that strict legal action would be taken against those found violating the law.

The incident comes amid nationwide attention on Wangchuk’s ongoing protest in the national capital. On Saturday, Delhi Police shifted the activist to Safdarjung Hospital after his health reportedly deteriorated during his prolonged hunger strike at Jantar Mantar.

In a separate development in Delhi, a woman allegedly threw an ink-like substance at Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party, while he was addressing supporters near the protest site.

The incident briefly disrupted the gathering as supporters rushed toward the stage, causing a commotion. Police sources said the woman was later detained, though her identity and motive are yet to be established.
