Two former lawmakers from Jammu and Kashmir, Mansoor Hussain Suharwardy and Yasir Reshi, rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday, more than four years after leaving the party.
Suharwardy, a former PDP MLA, and Reshi, who previously served as an MLC, formally returned to the party in the presence of PDP president Mehbooba Mufti at the party headquarters in Srinagar.
The announcement was made by the PDP through a post on X, stating that the two leaders were welcomed back by senior party members, including PDP vice-president Mohammad Sartaj Madni, Parliamentary Board chief Abdul Rehman Veeri, general secretaries Abdul Haq Khan and Mohammad Khursheed Alam, as well as former ministers Syed Nayeem Akhter Andrabi, Gh Nabi Lone Hanjura, and Asiya Naqash.
Suharwardy and Reshi were among several PDP leaders who had distanced themselves from the party after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) withdrew support from their coalition government in 2018. In 2021, both leaders had joined the People's Conference led by Sajad Gani Lone.
Their return marks another instance of former PDP leaders rejoining the party. Over the past year, prominent figures such as Muzaffar Hussain Baig, Khursheed Alam, and Basharat Bukhari have also returned to the PDP fold.
