Two people lost their lives in separate incidents after being trampled by wild elephants in Jharkhand’s Simdega district on Friday.
The first victim, a 28-year-old man named Vikas Ohdar, was attacked by an elephant while he was sleeping outside his house in Buruirgi Debatoli village under the jurisdiction of Mahabuang police station.
The incident occurred around 1 am. In another incident, a 45-year-old woman, Sibiraya Lugun, was killed by a wild elephant in Jamang village in the Bano police station area at around 6 am. She was reportedly in a nearby forest collecting Mahua flowers when the attack took place.
Following these tragic incidents, the forest department provided an immediate relief amount of ₹10,000 to the families of the deceased.
The remaining compensation will be disbursed after the completion of official formalities. As per the Jharkhand government’s policy, families of victims killed in elephant attacks are entitled to a compensation of ₹4 lakh.
