Two trekkers from Chandigarh who had gone missing in the Churdhar Valley of Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district were successfully rescued on Wednesday after an intensive search operation lasting over 30 hours, the police said.
"After an intense search of over 30 hours, the missing trackers were rescued from Churdhar valley by the teams of Nohra Dhar and Chaupal Police stations, with the help of local residents," Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Headquarter Ramakant Thakur, who is also holding the charge of Sangrah, said on Wednesday.
According to the police, late on Monday night, a trekker from Chandigarh, Dheeraj reported on emergency helpline 112 that two of his companions, Shubham and Prabhjot, had gone missing in Churdhar Valley while trekking towards the Chureshwar Maharaj temples.
The group of six had begun their trek to the Churdhar Peak from the Nohradhar side on Monday. However, Shubham and Prabhjot got separated from the others during the journey.
Upon being rescued, the two trekkers told police they lost their way due to dense fog and inclement weather conditions in the valley. The families of the rescued trekkers have been informed, the police said.
The authorities have once again urged all tourists and pilgrims visiting Churdhar to undertake the trek in groups, check weather conditions in advance, and remain mindful of mobile network limitations and the challenging terrain.
Churdhar Valley is known for its unpredictable and often harsh weather, making preparedness essential for all those venturing into the area.
