Uttarakhand Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh (retd) visited the disaster-hit areas of Dharali, Harsil and Mukhaba in Uttarkashi district. He met families affected by the floods and assured them of full support.
In Mukhaba, the Governor held discussions with officials from the District Administration, Army, NDRF, SDRF and other agencies. He reviewed the progress of rescue, relief and security operations. He asked officials to prepare a long-term plan to help families rebuild their lives and return to normal.
The Governor praised the coordination between the administration, Army, NDRF, SDRF and others. He said their quick response and teamwork helped speed up rescue efforts. He especially lauded the soldiers of the 14 Rajputana Regiment, who were themselves affected by the floods but still worked tirelessly in relief operations. He called their service an inspiring example of courage and humanity.
Earlier, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also reviewed relief efforts in Chamoli’s Tharali area, where a disaster struck on the night of August 22-23. At the State Emergency Operations Centre in Dehradun, Dhami directed officials to form a committee of experts and scientists to study the recent disasters in Tharali, Saiji (Pauri) and Dharali.
The Chief Minister also ordered immediate financial help. Families who lost their homes will receive Rs 5 lakh. Another Rs 5 lakh will be given to families who lost loved ones. He asked officials to urgently drain water from the temporary lake formed at Syanachatti to avoid further risk.
