The Uttarakhand IAS Association has passed a resolution emphasising that its members must be treated with due respect, following a controversy over remarks made by BJP MP and former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat regarding illegal mining in the state.

The resolution was adopted during a meeting held in Dehradun under the chairmanship of Uttarakhand IAS Association President Anand Bardhan. The association asserted that its members have the right to self-respect and urged individuals, officers, institutions, and organisations to refrain from making statements that could harm the dignity of IAS officers.

Uttarakhand IAS Association Secretary Dilip Jawalkar stated that the resolution would be formally submitted to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in the form of a memorandum.

The decision comes in response to recent remarks made by Rawat, who raised concerns about illegal mining in Uttarakhand while speaking in Parliament. He alleged that illegal mining trucks were operating without valid permits in Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital, and Udham Singh Nagar districts, primarily at night.

Rawat further claimed that overloaded trucks were damaging civic infrastructure and questioned the effectiveness of regulatory enforcement.

However, Mining Secretary Brijesh Kumar Sant refuted these allegations, calling them "baseless, false, and misleading." He cited record-breaking mining revenue in the current financial year as evidence of improved regulatory measures.

According to Sant, for the first time in Uttarakhand’s history, the mining revenue target was not only met but exceeded by ₹200 crore. In response to the secretary’s remarks, Rawat, while speaking on a private news channel, reportedly used objectionable language, which further escalated tensions.

The IAS Association’s resolution is widely seen as a reaction to Rawat’s controversial statements. The association has taken a firm stance, stressing the need for respectful discourse and urging all stakeholders to exercise caution in their remarks about government officials.
