Uttarakhand police are gearing up to ensure the safety of players and VIPs during the 38th National Games, scheduled from January 28 to February 14.
The Forest Department, known for preserving the Valley of Flowers, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its rare varieties of blooming flowers, is also contributing to making the state event-ready.
Control rooms in stadiums and sports venues
To enhance security, control rooms will be set up in six sports stadiums and other event venues across Uttarakhand. These control rooms will monitor activities round-the-clock, ensuring a safe environment for all participants and spectators.
For example, Tehri Lake, a venue for water sports, will have a dedicated control room nearby.
Venue officers for 24/7 monitoring
The police will appoint senior officers, ranked Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) or above, as venue officers. These officers will be stationed at the stadiums and grounds and will be available 24/7 to oversee the games and maintain order.
To strengthen security further, Uttarakhand has requested 10 companies of CPMF from the central government. The CPMF will assist in safeguarding players and VIPs, especially at critical locations. Drone teams are also expected to play a role in monitoring key areas.
The National Games will take place in cities across Uttarakhand, including Dehradun, Haridwar, Haldwani, Rudrapur, Pithoragarh, and Tehri. These cities are preparing to host various sports events, with IG (Law and Order) Nilesh Anand Bharne appointed as the nodal officer for the games.
Uttarakhand’s efforts to secure the National Games align with the state’s broader vision of promoting its rich heritage. Just like the Valley of Flowers, known for its rare and diverse blooming flowers, the state aims to provide a vibrant and secure experience for all participants and visitors.
