Northern Railways completes final track work on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link.

Northern Railways have completed the final track work on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), marking a historic milestone in India’s ambitious infrastructure development in the region.

The ballast-less track work for the crucial 3.2 km-long Tunnel T-33, connecting Katra to Reasi, was successfully finished Friday at 2:00 am.

Union Railway Minister AshwaniVaishnaw said in a post on X that “Historic milestone; final track work on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail link is complete.”

He further said that the ballast-less track work for the 3.2 km-long Tunnel T-33, located at the foothills of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine and connecting Katra to Reasi, was successfully completed on Friday at 02:00 hrs.”

The USBRL project, hailed as one of the most challenging railway projects in the world, involves intricate tunnel and bridge construction across rugged terrain and treacherous mountains.

With the completion of this project, the dream of connecting Jammu and Kashmir through an efficient rail network is nearing realisation.

Earlier, the Jammu and Kashmir region used to remain cut off from mainland India during the winter months following the accumulations of snow on the Mughal road and the frequent occurrence of landslides on the Srinagar national highway.

With this project, J&K is likely to get its all-weather connectivity route connecting it with the rest of the country.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the project and will also flag off the first train from New Delhi to Baramulla on 26th January 2024.
