A 25-year-old debt-ridden farmer from Ahli Kalan village in Sultanpur Lodhi’s flood-hit mand area allegedly tried to kill himself by consuming poison. The victim, Arshdeep Singh, was depressed since his paddy crop on 16 acres was destroyed in floods. He has been hospitalised.

 

Arshdeep’s mother Ranjit Kaur said her son had stopped eating and speaking. “I had asked some relatives to talk to him. He told them he was worried about repaying the loan,” she said. The family had suffered the same fate during the 2023 floods, but this time Arshdeep could not cope with it.
