The Department of Justice under the Ministry of Law and Justice will organise a Regional Workshop under the Designing Innovative Solutions for Holistic Access to Justice (DISHA) Scheme and ‘Reforms Utsav’ at Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh on June 15.
The event, to be held at the Government Degree College (PG) Auditorium in Kangra district, is aimed at strengthening access to justice, promoting legal awareness, encouraging pro bono legal services and showcasing key reforms undertaken in the justice sector over the past 12 years.
According to the Department of Justice, the programme is expected to be attended by the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice, along with senior officials from the Centre and the state government.The workshop will begin with a welcome address by the Secretary, Department of Justice, outlining the government’s efforts to ensure inclusive, affordable and accessible justice for all citizens.
A major highlight of the event will be the launch of “Nyaya Prabodh – Awakening to Justice”, a year-long legal awareness campaign aimed at enhancing citizens’ understanding of their constitutional and legal rights and responsibilities.The initiative seeks to strengthen legal literacy and encourage greater public participation in the justice delivery system.
As part of the campaign, several citizen-centric programmes will be launched, including Know Your Rights in 90 Seconds, designed to raise awareness about legal rights and remedies; Nyaya Quiz, an interactive initiative focused on constitutional values, legal institutions and citizens’ rights; and Pro Bono Pledge, which encourages advocates, law students and legal professionals to voluntarily contribute legal services for underprivileged and vulnerable sections of society.
The programme will also feature presentations on pro bono legal initiatives undertaken by the Himachal Pradesh National Law University, including experience-sharing sessions by faculty members and students engaged in community legal service activities. Participants will also view a documentary highlighting the experiences of beneficiaries of the Tele-Law initiative, followed by a live interaction with Tele-Law panel lawyers, Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) and beneficiaries to showcase the impact of technology-enabled legal services at the grassroots level.
Another key component of the event will be Reforms Utsav, which will highlight major achievements of the Department of Justice over the last 12 years. The exhibition will showcase initiatives related to judicial infrastructure development, digital transformation of courts, legal aid, legal awareness, judicial capacity building and citizen-centric justice delivery mechanisms.
The workshop will witness participation from representatives of the High Court registry, National and State Legal Services Authorities, bar associations, Tele-Law panel lawyers, Common Service Centre Village Level Entrepreneurs, officials from the Ministry of Rural Development, law students and faculty members, senior government officials, local administration representatives and media personnel.
