The UP Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) detains a man from Dehradun for his alleged involvement in a religious conversion racket.

The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has detained a man from Dehradun for his alleged involvement in a religious conversion racket. Officials say he was linked to the Chhangur Baba group, which is accused of running large-scale conversions and receiving foreign funds through illegal channels.

The man, Abdul Rehman, was picked up from the Sahaspur area on Thursday. He was later taken to Agra, where he was formally arrested after further questioning, said Dehradun SSP Ajay Singh. Rehman had reportedly converted from Hinduism to Islam in 2014–15.

The UP ATS had also shared information with the local police, leading to the tracing of a woman from Ranipokhari who had been in contact with Rehman.

According to the woman’s father, Rajkumar Bajaj, some people were trying to pressure his daughter to convert. A case has been filed at the Ranipokhari police station under the Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion Act.

Police say five people have been named in the case — two from Delhi, two from Uttar Pradesh, and one from Goa. Teams have been sent to arrest them.
