The Uttar Pradesh state government to further consolidate grant-aided primary schools to improve access to quality education for children of marginalised groups, an official release stated on Friday. The primary schools run under the Social Welfare Department will impart free and quality education to economically weaker sections' children— particularly those from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and below-poverty-line families.
Now, 448 grant-aided primary schools in the state are recognised by the Basic Education Department and get aid from the Social Welfare Department. In the grant-aided primary schools, special emphasis is being laid not only to impart free education, but also to introduce modern teaching practices, enhance basic infrastructures, and employ trained teachers. They also provide free books, uniforms, and study materials to ease the burden on parents. Significantly, the government wants these schools to be not only learning centres, but also podiums of the holistic development of children.
The Social Welfare Department has digitalised and made the process of grant-giving time-specific to avoid misappropriation of funds and to ensure that every penny is utilised directly for school improvement and the education of the students. Regular checks and auditing have been scheduled to keep this system in place, the statement added.

Efforts are also being made to enhance the recruitment and training of teachers in these schools to provide quality education. Through these schools, Scheduled Caste children, Scheduled Tribe children, and below-poverty-line families are being integrated into mainstream education.
It not only aids their intellectual development but also increases their confidence and prospects in the future. This scheme also manifests the Yogi Adityanath administration's policy of "Education for All, Respect for All," it further stated.
While Minister of State for Social Welfare (Independent Charge), Aseem Arun, noted that the government's aim is to give quality education to even the most backwards parts of society. Through grant-aided primary schools, attempts are being made to provide requisite educational inputs while maintaining transparency, accountability, and quality.
He further stated that the vision is to make Uttar Pradesh a role model state in education too.
